Salary Sacrifice Car Lease and Maternity Pay

Hi,

My wife is 20 weeks pregnant and we are currently trying to understand what her maternity pay will look like.

She works for the NHS and has a lease car through salary sacrifice.

My question is, how will the lease car payments works while my wife is on maternity leave?
During the time that she is on Full/50% Pay, will the car payments be deducted from this? If that's the case, what happens when we reach the point that only SMP is being paid and then when there is no SMP in the latter months?

We have been told that the car lease payments will cease once my wife goes on maternity leave? However I find it very hard to believe that she will be allowed free use of a car through her time off work?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Surely the situation with the car lease payments and use of the car are something she needs to take up with the employer. They can provide a definitive answer, whereas all we can do is guess.

She should be able to just ask her employer. Something like that is normally included in the FAQ for the scheme.

Hi Dan, if your wife finds out the answer to this could you post here please? I have an NHS lease car (second one in August) and have just found out I same expecting. It’s our only household vehicle so am keen to find out the implications on mat pay etc. Thank you!
