Specsavers and their expensive extra options - advice please?

This will be my first time with varifocal lenses. My contact lense optician which is vision express would have been a fortune. I visited specsavers and they would be about £380. I've today ordered 2 paired of glasses from Asda. There optician has over 30 years experience. Asda varifocal lenses apparently are good, not the absolute best as in bespoke but he told me that my prescription didn't require that. I've paid £150 for 2 pairs. This includes an additional level of thinning in my left eye beyond their normal level. I get them in 2 weeks. I'll update this thread with my results. I'm crossing my fingers that my decision to go with asda works out.0

Collected my glasses from Asda this week and I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. They are great. Vision is fine and I've adjusted to the varifocal format of looking down to obtain clearer reading. quality spot on, thinned lenses at no extra charge. One designer and one from the £80 range for £150. Highly recommended and thank you to Adsa at Benton, Newcastle.0

Asda all the way for me have worn varifocals for 27 years and glasses for 61 years. Went to Specsavers once terrible experience.
I travel 70 miles to an Asda I went to before I moved away because they are so good, this time had to wait 6 weeks for an appointment they are so busy.0 -
As it happens I have an appointment with Asda tomorrow. My current glasses are from Specsavers. I commented to the receptionist that I didn't like a certain other company's confusion marketing, and she said that a lot of people said that..0

I found boots opticians very expensive. After i once had an eye test at Specsavers i was subject to what i call 'high pressure sales' tactics to buy a couple of pairs of Glasses. There are loads of extra add-ons as regarding the final price.
I then went to Asda and found they offered great value and good frames with very few add ons.0 -
Bear in mind some of these add ons are very useful for some groups of people. I personally don't use normal tinted lenses for sunglasses and always buy polarised, even if it is significantly more expensive. Some people just need a wider view varifocal, no point sitting miserable at work for two years because you bought the cheap lens that can't accommodate your computer distance. Transition, never see the point but I had customers who swore by them.
The point is just say no. Or if you don't like something about your current glasses tell somebody. Chances are there's an easy fix for the problem you're having.0
