Car finance

Just wondering about a few things as I am new to the ppi world.
We have had a few cars over the years but not sure if we were charged ppi. Do I need to write to each finance company to check first and then write back to claim? I don't have the paperwork to check.
Also, I read that ppi wasn't mis sold after 2009, is that correct? If so, then can you still claim after 2009?
Thanks

You complain to whoever sold you the PPI, which would be the dealer, rather than the finance company.

If you have mis sale reasons, you can put in a complaint.

The car dealer has the liability for the complaint. Not the finance company (caveat - some tied brand lenders take the liability from the dealer).

PPI is still sold today. At least the good PPI is. The bad types of PPI typically stopped being sold by 2009. So, if you bought the loan after that date, it is unlikely you have PPI and therefore complaining would be pointless.

Car dealers became regulated in January 2005. So, effectively, you are looking at a window between 2005 and 2009.

  • I had a car on finance I think I got it around 1999.... the company I bought it through don’t exist anymore but I know it was on a really high APR and so really would g surprise me if I’d been paying ppi also - but how do I go about checking if the company don’t exist anymore?

No point, if they don't exist, as you have no one to complain to.

And as it was pre-regulation, even if they still existed, they wouldn't need to review your complaint.
