Samsung S5 storage help please

Options
trying to free up some memory space on my wife's S5 phone. it only has 1.4gb of it's internal 16gb free. we have a 32gb sd card inserted that shows it has around 15gb of used memory (for her music).

i am trying to transfer her photos that are stored on the internal memory of the phone to her sd card, which would free up another 1.4gb. i select all the photos in an album (309) and select 'move to album' i then select 'create album' then select 'on sd card' i then name it and select 'create' but then i get a message box flashing up saying there is not enough space and to delete unwanted downloads etc?

as i said the sd card is showing over 14gb of free space, even if i try to move only 1 photo into this newly created album i get the same message box about no space.

am i missing something here because i am sure that is all i have done in the past to free up some space.

many thanks.

i am no expert but as you only have 16gb internal storage when you inserted sd card you should have had the option to format to use as internal storage. is there an option to save/move all photos to sd card within gallery or storage settings?

Have you cleared your cache in storage and deleted any unused apps to free up storage? do you have google photos installed and backing up? you should be moving your photos stored on the phone to pc/laptop/nas rather than keeping them on the phone. if you have google photos you can still view them all on the phone but unless you download them they are not taking up space.

    many thanks for reply
the wife likes the pics on the phone as she can then show them at elderly relatives without any wifi or internet connection.

i do not recall having an option to format the card as internal memory. that would have been ideal.

apps are at a minimum (there is a lot of un-deletable apps on a samsung that we really don't use).

my main issue is that the card states there is 14gb free space on it but i cannot seem to transfer her pics onto it from the internal stoarage?
  • UPDATE
i followed above advice and wiped the cache. restarted phone and now picture transfers seem to be available to sd card. one issue i have encountered is with the default 'camera' album when it transferred to the sd card around 60 of the 97 pics on it have not transferred. they are there but only as a black square (no pic is visible). have i lost these ones for good now do you think?

clearing the cache should have no effect on your camera album. i am not sure why the thumbnails are showing a black square. I hope you have a back up of the photos so that you can just reinstall if lost

hope you get it sorted. have just googled and it appears it could be because sd card is corrupted or fake. this may have been your original problem
