Corrupt SD Card - any way to save?

Options
Hi

I bought a Kingston SD card from ebay recently and it has corrupted - was using it in a camera when it became corrupt - not sure if it was a dodgy card or because I didn't format the card before use?

I've just re-formatted it to FAT32 but it still won't copy files - it starts copying a few but then just copies blank folders with nothing in them.

Is there a reliable tool to try to remove the corruption?

It's a 64GB card. As it was from ebay I've no idea whether it was genuine or not which might be the issue...?!

Only want it to store music on to put in my phone so it wouldn't be disastrous if it died again as I have the music saved elsewhere too - would just be handy if it could be made to work.

Many thanks

You can try using recuva to recover from it. But if you want to test if it's "fake flash" then do a Google for h2testw or get it from https://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/h2testw/

Possibly a fake one, Your 64GB card maybe 4GB or 8GB and "FIXED" to show 64GB.

It works fine until you try and save 64GB where it overwrites older data.

Dont buy SD cards off ebay.

  • There are some tools on a Russian flash site which can be helpful. I have fixed a trashed 128GB USB flash drive before. That drive used to BSOD my pc every time I plugged it into windows but not Linux. I had to wipe the drive in Linux so that I could run the utils in windows without BSOD's.

There are some utils which can extract information about the flash chips which is needed to identify the correct utility to run on the drive in order to repair it.

It could be fake or it could just be corrupted. In which case repairing it should get it working again.

Did it cost around £25 If so it's probably legit.

64GB should be formatted as exfat not fat32.

I always by from amazon (and amazon not a 3rd party), as fake cards are common, especially at cheap prices.
  • There are some utils that might be worth trying here>

Here are the utils to detect the flash details and show all the information available>

There are newer versions available of some of those utils therefore I would recommend that you do a search for the utils.
For example ChipGenius has a newer version in April last year.

Once you get the information you can find the device firmware. A reflash might fix it.
