Hi I received a cheque payment from my uncle in Canada for some money to help make a down payment on a house. My uncle got a Canadian bankers draft and I deposited it in to my Barclays savings account and was told due to it being a international cheque it can take between 6 to 8 weeks to clear. Throughout the time frame I called the bank to ensure everything was going smoothly. The cheque should have cleared by Dec 10th I called my bank asking why money was not in account. I was told that they declined payment of that amount into a regular savings account and I should have got a electronic transfer instead. Any how I contacted my uncle in Canada informed him of the issue. When he went to his bank they said the money has left his account. I called Barclays on many occasions and they said they have not got the money the Canadian bank waiting for funds to be returned. I showed Barclays some information I received from Canadian bank and Barclays said it seems as if the money went into a routing account. The Canadian bank says I need to speak with my bank and my bank says I need to have Canadian bank recover money. I'm really lost don't know what to do any help would be much appreciated please.

Google "Barclays complaints" and pursue it from there.0

Hi Bizzle, if it has left your uncles account and not arrived in your, I think you need to chase Barclays. It has happened to me before where they put my money in a "hold account" and every time i rang they said they couldn't find it. Luckily, one person knew how to find it.0

Too much to pay into a savings account? A Barclays Everyday Saver has a maximum balance of £10 million
The only adult regular saver I can think of is their Help to Buy ISA, is that the account you have?
Yes, a direct wire transfer would have been faster and more secure but that's the benefit of hindsight.
As the cheque was deposited with Barclays and sent for negotiation I would argue they should take ownership. Perhaps try arguing your case in branch one last time and if that fails you can log a missing payment/process not actioned complaint in branch, over the phone or through online banking.
You uncle could simultaneously raise a request to recall the money with his bank - it's unlikely his bank is still holding the funds at this stage if as you say it's left, but they can initiate a bank-to-bank dialogue that may be more fruitful than being passed between disinterested branch staff.
Best of luck, would be interested to hear how it pans out.: )0 -
