Faulty fish aquarium filter bought online

I paid £75 for an external filter from All Pond Solutions (online only company based in Uxbridge) and it has worked find for 11 months since purchased and comes with a 3yr warranty. I have a fantastic 200L tank with over 30 tropical fish. However, of all the days on Christmas Eve I came home to a part flooded floor and its the eternal filter leaking. I tried emptying it and doing all the obvious options but it was randomly leaking each time so I could no longer risk using this filter. So for 3 days I was without a filter and concerned fish would die and All Pond Solutions customer services were closed Christmas week. Therefore, only option was to buy a new filter locally which I did. This is working fine but my argument here is the product has a fault which All Pond Solutions brag its the so called O-Rings which are supposed to be changed every 6 months. There is no mention of this in the warranty or handbook so I am pushing for compensation. They will only consider if I return the product via mail and would charge to have it returned. I have suggested an offer of £50 compensation since their store was closed and I had no option but to purchase a new filter or fish would all die. Am I entitled to a refund of compromised settlement? What should I do since it was clear there is a 3yr warranty?

The warranty is likely to be with the manufacturer rather than the seller. Your rights with the seller actually mean that they get to choose whether to repair, replace or refund - but only after they have ascertained that the failure was due to an inherent fault (the onus at 11 months is actually on you to prove it). You can either return the pump and see what the seller offers or contact the manufacturer and ascertain what they are prepared to do.0

Where is it leaking from. If it is not constantly leaking then I would be suspecting a hose connection is not fully seated.
What make/model of filter is it ?0 -
why not buy locally in the 1st place?0

Where is it leaking from? Have you maintained the O Ring around the top properly?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

In what way is that pertinent?
Why post pointless questions?0 -

Probably because many local fish shops tend to hike their prices up.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I keep fish and run external filters and have never replaced any o rings in the last 10 years. The only time you would replace one is when it leaks.0

Waiting until they leak leaves you in a mess OP is now in. They still need regular checking for splits, cleaning and making sure there's no grit around them.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
