Hello,
Sincere apologies if this is in the wrong place.
We've had BAYV for years, the last two products were a cooker and washing machine.
Monthly they take £85 via DD.
When we had the above items, I queried the amount going out of the bank, as it seemed too low. I queried this with the local manager, and twice over the phone a few months apart. I also wrote to them. I was assured that we were paying the correct amount. We've been paying this amount for 3 years.
I've just received a letter from them stating we are £850 in arrears and that we are making the wrong payments. We should be paying £122 a month. We're having a tough time at the moment and have worked our finances out and we can't afford the extra amount.
I'm upset because I've contacted them about this and are now being blamed as such for a mistake that isn't ours.
Any advice please? And what I should say in a letter back to them.
Many thanks
Warm regards
VG

I don’t know what answer you want.

There’s no doubt you owe the money due to an error, can you renegotiate your finance deal?

How much does it say on the paperwork?

However you resolve this you should not buy anything else from these rip-off merchants.
Hardly surprising that your debt is spiraling with interest charges of 69% APR.
There are plenty of good second hand cookers etc. for sale, each of which you could buy for the equivalent of one of your payments.
    Forgotten but not gone.

Unfortunately at present Buy As You View is no longer able to make new sales or enter into new lending agreements. We are continuing to service existing customer agreements as normal.

says a lot for a company probably been deemed as a none responsible lender and forced to stop ripping off low income vulnerable people.

Can you check to see if you have been missold PPI etc

    I would call that fortunate!

I think this is a question that needs an answer.

What made you think you weren't paying enough?
Didn't you check the paperwork at that time?
If you did, and the monthly amount was more than the £85 you were paying, why didn't you point this out at the time you were speaking to the company about the correct amount of payments?

I know this doesnt help in your present position,
but in future op just buy secondhand , that’s what most people would do.
    Good luck sorting this out.
