Dual home insurance with two different companies!

Hi,
I've found myself in the position of having two home insurances (which I have luckily not needed to claim from)in place as my British gas insurance automatically renewed whilst I had insurance with another company. The information regarding the renewal was sent to a defunct email address and old mobile which was no longer used. Anyway I found out when I received my visa credit card bill which has taken me more than 14 days from when it was taken off(19th of December) I contacted British gas to cancel my insurance last week and was asked to email evidence of the other insurance to them for a refund....where I duly forwarded them the policy details. Today I chased this up and have been told I can only get a partial refund as they need to send out forms which I then send to the other insurance company to confirm both insurances at the same time. They are cancelling the policy from today. I'm starting to think I won't get my money back onto my card which is accruing interest in the meantime.
