Thank you Ames. Is that full-time students in both further and higher education?

If she goes into higher education, how would having PIP and ESA affect higher education loans?

If you read the link Alice posted it seems to be both further and higher.

It's the other way around - the full loan she's eligible for (even if she doesn't take it) will be income for ESA/housing benefit purposes. PIP isn't means tested so isn't affected by anything.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • Thank you Ames. We live in a full UC area. If she decides to claim ESA in March, does it make any difference whether she is put in the support group or WRAG group?

If you're in a full service UC area then I don't think she will be able to claim ESA it will have to be UC.

She'll automatically qualify for the UC equivalent of WRAG if she's in full time education and in receipt of PIP. I assume she can go through the process for being put into a group and possibly get put in the Support Group equivalent.

I'm not sure what you mean by making a difference, do you mean in relation to the student loan? If so then no, the loan will be taken into account as income for UC.

ETA: Just to add, don't just take my advice, I'm not a specialist and UC is completely new. There are helpline's available, such as the one Alice linked to. The NUS might also be able to help.

    To reinforce Ames's point.
    1) UC is new, and the complexities are still coming to light, &
    2) Students & Benefits is a complex area, &
    3) Unfortunately the guidance given by the DWP through it's UC Helpline can be incorrect.

So, you (and you daughter) will probably need to get specific and specialist advice (i.e from Disability Rights UK), and be persistent with the DWP.

    Best wishes.
