Do Capital One still ask for deposit?

I applied for a capital one classic visa card today and was delighted when they accepted me. I am just looking to rebuild my credit history.
I have since read on the net about a 200 pound deposit that they ask for. Is this still in operation? There was no mention of it on the website and if its true then I definitely dont want the card.

Just realised I didnt even introduce myself. Im new here but an old hand at forums so I tend to dive right in!
Im Paul, and have recently managed to clear the last of some very bad, old debts.
I have an aqua card, but was interested in the capital one visa as it allows you to manage your account online.
All other cards have refused me so i'm banking on the Capital one for online access.
Any advice regards the deposit, and indeed any advice regards a comparison between aqua and capital one would be much appreciated. I have had excellent service from aqua, just really need the online access.
Many thanks in advance0 -
Hi Paul,
Where did you see the information regarding a deposit.
I've had 2 cap one cards and never had to put down a deposit.
Can you provide a link where you saw it?
If not then I'd ignore it and proceed cautiously.
Make sure you read the important bits.
My feeling is that this doesn't sound right.0 -
Hi PaulThey stopped that offer, for the guaranteed card, about 6 months ago then starting returning the deposits to their customers. James0

Thats a relief! I had a feeling because most posts I read on it were from 2005. I was so happy to be accepted, and so dissapointed to read about this deposit.
You put my mind at rest.
Im still in a dilemma though. Aqua have given me great service. I dont know whether to use both cards at once or ditch aqua and use the capital one card.0 -
If you're used to "great service" from Aqua, then id brace yourself for Capital One. Awful service, just awful. I have never once spoken to the UK when I call them, they have still got me on a pitiful £200 limit, despite never missing a payment and a dramatic increase in my credit scoring (Vanquis gave me £1000 limit) they still refuse to allow me £500 or even less! Plus you cannot make debit card payments to them! They can accept them, but only if you are over your limit! (i found that out about 18 months ago).
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -

Thanks for the feedback its much appreciated.
What you said about the debit thing worries me. The great thing about aqua is they sent me a payzone card linked to the account. I can pay cash at many shops and off licences to pay my credit card. As a result ive usually paid the minimum payment before my statement even hits the doorstep, then I continue to pay it off as and when.
So now I am in a quandry. Do I try both cards for a while? I suppose I could tell aqua ive been offered the other card and see if I can use it as leverage to get an interest rate reduction.0
