Hi all,
I’m currently separating from my partner, we have two children together, and own (30%me, 30%him, 40% silent partner) a freehold pub with accommodation, it’s pretty much all mortgage, nonetheless, technically, I own a property.
I have another job, but, will need a little help to supplement my income as the pub will not be for sale just yet, and that’s hoping we’ll actually make any
Money from it anyway!
I’ve been searching online and have spoken with CAB to no avail, am I entitled to housing benefit and council tax reduction?
I know some properties are exempt from being counted, but I can not find a comprehanesive list.
Any help would be gratefully received!

I think the only chance of being entitled to housing benefit is if the pub's up for sale.
Have you checked whether or not you're in a full service universal credit area?Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Hi Ames,
Thanks for responding.
Universal credit is rolling out in my area on 19th April.0 -
Are you applying for tax credits as this would affect any housing benefit claim. The property would not be counted as income for tax credits.
As for HB and CTR then just apply and see what they say. The fact that you own a percentage of the property introduces a different factor into whether this was counted as capital. A decision maker would ultimately decide one way or another.
Best to make sure you have sufficient funds before you move out. Is your partner helping with moving costs, deposit and giving you child support?0 -
pmlindyloo, thank you for responding.

I already receive WTC, that is unaffected.

You’re right, I guess just have to see what they say when presented with all the facts.

I have sufficient for a couple of months, including deposit, just forward planning I guess.0 -

Have you notified HMRC of your change of circumstances? Change from joint to single claim? Are you receiving child tax credits?0 -
Hi,
I have notified HMRC of a change in circumstance, I receive Child benefit and working tax credit.
I’m waiting on a new awards notice at the moment.
Thank you.0
