Unhappy with my bank!

I called my bank's customer service dept. yesterday morning (15/10/07) at 11am because i wanted to know 2 things.........................................................................................................Firstly, i wanted to know if they knew why my new credit card had been declined when i tried to make a purchase a few days ago..........and secondly, i have a savings account with them which has £5k in it and i realised that i am currently getting net interest of about 3.3 or 3.4% and i wanted to know what they could offer me in terms of a better deal as i have realised i can get better elsewhere?.......................................................................................................................................................................................................The first guy i spoke to was totally useless, unable to help with either query, so he put me through to the Best Customer Retention Unit. The guy there was also unable to help me with the first point, and not only was he unable to help me with the second point - but at one point he actually offered to put me on an account earning 0.1% interest!!! TOTALLY INCOMPETANT........................................................................................................................................................................................................Eventually, at about 11:45am, i was put through to my branch. So i explained all the previous, and was told that the manager was at lunch and i'll get a call back this afternoon. So being a busy man and not able to sit on my hands all day waiting for them to call back, i had to go out as things needed doing. I took my bank statement with me and waited for my phone to ring. I did not receive this call back and upon realising that i had lost my bank statement within the previous 30 mins, i called customer services back.............................................................................................................................................................................................................. I informed them that i was now calling about a security matter as i had lost my bank statement due to them taking so long to get back to me, and i was concerned about this situation and wanted the account closing straight away. I was then put on hold and told to wait .........i was travelling in a car as a passenger at the time, and the reception cut out momentarily on my mobile, cutting off the call.......................................................................................................I thought that at this point i would receive a call back, surely?!?! After all at this point i was not only an unhappy customer who had been waiting 5 hours to resolve a couple of things, but i now had security and fraud concerns about my account........................................................................................................I WAS NOT called back, and had to visit my bank today to resolve these issues, thus using up yet more of my time which should i feel should not have been needed had they done their job in the first place. I am now going to write to a complaints department...........................................................................................SORRY THE POST IS A BIT LONG! ..but I'd like to know if the good people of this forum think i am right to be angry, or whether you think im over-reacting?? Should i threaten to take my savings elsewhere unless i receive some sort of goodwill gesture and full apology, and above all else i want to be assured that this level of incompetance does not run through the company, and how they are going to ensure that myself (and other customers) dont have to suffer this kind of rubbish customer service anymore?......................................................................................................................................................................................................Please let me know what you think, many thanks in advance, Dave.

Not only long but incomprehensible. Try keeping to the point and using paragraphs to cover each issue.

Please use the ENTER key. You will find it on the right side of your keyboard.

At present, your post is completely undecipherable.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

I hope you feel better getting that off your chest?

May I suggest you write to your bank and keep your questions / complaints to the point and specifically what you want the bank to do for you.

If you are unhappy with the response, take your overdraft elsewhere.

You only just realised your savings account rate .... speaks volumes

I think it's a bit much to suggest you only lost your bank statement due to them taking so long to get back to you!

Other than that, you need to get straight what your issues are with the bank, and if they can't resolve things then look elsewhere.

When you went to your bank did they resolve the credit card issue which was your main complaint? If there was a good reason that it was declined then I would stay with them.

It is up to you to check what interest rates you can get for savings - don't assume your own bank will offer you the highest rate. MSE has plenty of help and best rates tables.

Customer service operators are bad at all banks, you just have to be lucky when you get through to them.

If you're unhappy with your Bank get a new one.....there are plenty out there.

Life is too short ( unlike the post ) to be 'unhappy'
