Is a landline still a necessity?

Given the changes made by Ofcom on 1 July 2015 to the call charges for calls to 084, 087 and 09 numbers, the charges quoted above for calls to 0843, 0844, 0845 and 0870 numbers cannot be correct. A single Access Charge should be shown for all 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers.
Additionally, given that the termination rate for calls to UK mobile numbers starting 071-075 and 077-079 is now below 0.49p (£0.0049) per minute, the rate charged for calls to UK mobile numbers is excessive. It should be barely more than the rate charged for calls to UK landlines.
You’ll have to take it up with them, that’s a screenshot from their site today.
Here’s a link to the full price list.

That's one directly for Ofcom, during their office hours tomorrow. :-)0

Nope - not at the rate we get charged by Plusnet for daytime calls:rotfl:0 -
Is using Viber or Skype a possibility for the international stuff?Personally, I stopped using skype and viber as WhatsApp was better quality IMHO
We're using WhatsApp more and more and use Skype where WhatsApp is not practical, for example when travelling.0 -

Sipgate are German, so presumably comply with the German telecom regulator's rules about charging for calls.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
I've recently moved into a house and taken out the Virgin Vivid 50Mb Broadband at £27 pm for 12 m (then £33 pm)
and have no landline.
This means I'm not paying the large sum for line rental  for something I'd rarely, if ever, use to call out.
I have an old Android phone with a PAYG 3 sim in it to use as a 'house' phone. I give out the number to any company or business that needs to have my number and I can carry on using my 'real' mobile number for private use  .
I don't even make many actual phone calls with that either as WhatsApp is a great alternative to a phone call to friends and family at 1p per MB for data usage0
