Job hunting as a Graduate

Regarding voluntary work it depends on the field - some fields its absolutely necessary and some fields you would get odd looks for even suggesting it.
The type of work the OP is wanting to go into doesn't suit voluntary work but if they were going into journalism/design work then it would be suitable.0 -

I wasn't suggesting working 6 months unpaid, I was just suggesting ways to get a foot in the door and make yourself stand out amongst the heap of graduate CVs on an employers desk. If you're saying you're prepared to do some work for nothing (and that could just be 1 or 2 days a week) it not only shows you're keen and dedicated, but also hardworking, particularly if you're holding down a part-time job as well to pay the bills (or more accurately, to limit the assault on your overdraft.)
And if you're the one approaching them, it's not exploitation - it's working out what you can both gain from each other and coming to an arrangement that suits you both. When there's no money involved, you have the luxury of turning things down or walking away if it's not what you want.By replying to this post you are agreeing to my Terms and Conditions which state that I am correct0 -
What happens when you don't look like getting a 2:1, i am realistically gonna get a 2:2 when i graduate in june, but few of the grad jobs i have found will accept that!
Also i am about to graduate with Applied Social Sciences which is not directed to any particular employment - how do i narrow down my options, to help me direc my applications?0
