KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Have kondo'ed a lot of time researching cat flaps, after the one we bought for our cat turned up faulty. It should have been the same as at our old house, but the manufacturer appears to have changed hands since we installed the previous one. I ordered it anticipating it may have a problem, as some of the recent Amazon reviews said there could be issues and sure enough, it wouldn't recognise her chip. We've had the chip checked so we know that's fine, so back to Mr A it goes. We asked for a replacement to give it one last try, but they are out of stock until 7th September which is way to long to be having to leave a door open for her. So have ordered all singing all dancing electronic web connected catflap at huge expense and hope that it proves to be more reliable.
Still no more rats despite 3 traps. OH reckons if we catch anything else it'll be after the bin collection on Thursday......Make £2025 in 2025

we use to have one with a magnetic device that opened just for our cats who wore the "special collar" - which they hated BTW - the idea was to stop a local cat visiting. They of course visited other cats and use to come back with all sorts attached to their collars....we decide to change just to an ordinary cat flap one when one cat came back with the neighbours car keys attached to its collar!!Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Our cat won't wear a collar and TBH I wouldn't want her to, given that she was found and taken to the RSPCA with a collar wound, it's hardly surprising she was less than keen when we tried her with one.
Yes I remember the magnetic collar cat flaps, our late Merlin had one. Had the occasional thing stuck to it, but not much.
This new one works on microchips and is connected to 'tinternet so you can programme the flap to close when you're not around to do it yourself, and it monitors the cat's comings and goings, which can then be sent to our phones.......

A small coffee cup saucer has just leapt from my hand and thrown itself onto the kitchen floor (vinyl tile over concrete). It exploded across the threshold of two rooms and seemed to have twice as many fragments as the original small saucer could possibly account for.
This was one of a pile of small coffee saucers I bought from a chazzer to serve for snacks etc. I have 4 left, one they've gone bye-bye I can splurge on some more.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Drat, I heard a bang last night and wondered if we'd caught another rat. Turned out to be a very small mouse. The bait had been well eaten though, as had all of the peanut butter we've also added in, so I'm wondering if something else went into the box after the mouse had triggered it, as it was early in the night, and a lot had been eaten. We've set it up again, see whether we may catch something else returning.Make £2025 in 2025

Our cats were in for around 14 hours after the move before we'd all had enough and out they went. They've all settled really well. They've been hunting well in the overgrown garden so are earning their keep.
3 large bits of furniture that came with us have had to go, just can't make them fit here and a few bags of linens/curtains have gone too.
Slowly cleaning my way round the house, it's grim, properly filthy and we've had a few cockroaches dashing about - blugh. But it's cleaning up and it's lost the neglected, dirty smell now the windows and doors are open 24/7. We have a boiler going in tomorrow and every room will be in upheaval for new rads and pipework but it will be a treat to have hot water on tap. Just as I'd got used to cold showers too
I've started an instagram account up for our renovation shenanigans so pop me a message if you'd like the account name to see what we're getting up to"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Wow Pooky sounds like you're cracking on with it!
Have had a bloke in today to quote for an alarm. I was burgled in my previous home and after that had an alarm. Although we feel pretty safe here, and there seem to be few houses with alarms in the area, which suggests burglary is low, I'd prefer better security for peace of mind.Make £2025 in 2025

Our cat caught something, maybe a shrew or vole yesterday afternoon. I managed to intercept her before she brought it in. We've had another couple of small rodents in the traps overnight, still no sign of the rats.
Black bin day today, so the rotting rodents will be going, thank goodness.
I've set about kondoing my gas supplier this morning. I've got a Resolver dispute raised with them about the electric (the economy 7 meters are being billed the wrong way round and they seem unable to get their heads around sorting it), whilst that is ongoing I will stick with them, but am moving the gas to a cheaper supplier that only has a £5 exit fee. Once I can get things sorted with existing leccy supplier, I'll switch both elsewhere most likely. All these things are theives of time though aren't they.
I will take a walk into town and see if I can purchase a peg bag. The existing one is falling apart, bits of plastic breaking off and shreds of nylon catching in the pegs. It's very old and owes us nothing. Have a couple of small bits to drop off at the charity shop on the way past.Make £2025 in 2025

I have just kondoes a tin of Ajax that I brought from my mothers house.....she died in 2001!! In my defence it isnt a product that I would use a lot of but it was useful to clean the utitity SS sink after DH had been working on car/bike bits.....;)
I'm gradually increasing my pile of kitchen equipment that is either redundant or unsuitable. When its all collated I'll post on freecycle or CS it.
Slinky - we had a Tom using our catflap (just an ordinary one) and eating all the food so I changed it so it only opened outward - took my cat 5 mins to work out how to come in but the Tom hasnt returned!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
