It seems ages since you've been to your friends antique shop GQ, or have I missed it?

I love hearing about your finds there anyway, but you're such a good writer it always raises a smile, as well as being an interesting read.
:) I was chillaxing at lunchtime at the juntique shop and reading this on pal's laptop (wasn't logged onto the site, tho).

Well, I was at the shop, wasn't turfing out anything but was playing with the jewellery and pricing 9 ct gold rings (formula is weight in grammes x £20 + £5-£10 extra to knock off when buyer haggles). Same for 18 ct except it's £40 x weight in grammes).

:) So now you know. Pre-loved jewelley is a much better buy than brand-new, jewellers work on a 300-400% mark-up.

  • Another day, another shed! we've got a moving date now 29th August so I've gone right through the remaining unpacked things in the kitchen and found a few more to give away so they'll go on the bottom of the drive this afternoon! This thread is GOOD for me!

:T I feel for you turfing out stuff in this heat, MrsLW.

Been to the allotment with my Dad, we were up there at 08.00 and came away just after 12, headed to an IT Barn Store to buy a 3-in-1 printer. Although it's a wireless model, it also works with USB but doesn't come with one supplied. Thought I should buy one while I was up there but they were sold out, so came home and checked my Cable Stash and have the cable off the printer which died in January, so glad I hadn't bought another.

My lovely Dad and I wrestled the 21 kg CRT monitor onto the back seat of his car (the boot being full of potatoes) and he dropped it off at their town's HWRC which he has to pass on the way home. I'm looking at the space under my table where it has been lurking for the past several weeks and wondering what I shall put under there.

Bag of Stuff gone back to the Homestead plus the harvested potatoes minus the sack for me. He didn't criticise my gardening, just remarked the plots can look a bit untidy at this time of year.

Things won't be really tidy until after the pyromanical activities come October.

:( Bit of a sad day in the wider GQ family; The Queen of Sheba (late 2004-today) had to be put down due to an inoperable tumour.

She's one of the two family mogs, sister to the fluffier and much dafter Wild Thing. We're all pretty sad but you can't let them suffer. She's now buried in the back garden where she loved to spend her days. :(

  • All the things I put out were taken except a plastic jug (didn't think anyone would want it), 2 x older soda stream bottles and a Lowry print that Nell didn't want any longer all taken to the tip this morning. Didn't stop there though Ruthie made many years ago cushions for the spare bed which I've always hated they went too! AND I'm going to shed all the older pillows and buy new ones and pillow covers before we move...Mmmmm I like this Kondo lark!

So sorry to hear that GQ, she and Docky will get along like a house on fire over the rainbow bridge, even more mayhem than usual and she'll be in charge, may she enjoy chasing spirit mice forever and a day! xxx.

Oh that is sad GQ. Does Wild Thing miss her? The house will seem empty for a while - she was the lap seeking missile, wasn't she?
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

:( Too early to tell, WT and she were littermates and we rehomed them together from the cat sanctuary in August 2005. Although they've never been separated, they were always less pally than completely unrelated cats we've owned who'd curl up together, groom each other etc. It was more a case of them sharing the same living quarters and occasionally The Queen taking a swipe at WT over a food bowl.

WT is an outdoor cat from early spring until late autumn, so we don't see a lot of her, other than rocking up for food several times a day and making a fuss if you sit outside on the patio, she won't come in now until about late November. She's good at cat things and a major cutie, but not the brightest button. We'll have to see.

The Queen was put down this morning, and Mum said to Dad that, when WT goes, they'll not have another cat (they're in their mid seventies themselves). Dad joked that they'll always have to have a cat, we need them to keep the rats down.

Plus we're all daft for cats and a cat-sized hole in your life tends to be quickly filled by a cat-sized opportunist. You can go get one or one comes and gets you, in our experience.

My life has been measured in cats; The Black One with No Name (birth until I was aged 10), the White One with Ginger Blotches, the White and Tortie (overlapping with the previous one), The Black & White one who moved in of her own accord, The Black Rescue with the Ragged Ear, then The Queen of Sheba and Wild Thing.

That's over 50 years of cats, and the longest we've been catless was 5 weeks between the Black & White and the Black Rescue and we didn't know what to do with ourselves.

The Queen was grey, WT is mottled like a grey/ beige moth. we went to the cat sanctuary for another black one or even a tabby, ended up with those two. Eventually, we'll go again, probably come back with a bootfaced ginger tom next time..........

The Queen was a devoted lapcat, WT doesn't sit on people, we think her very thick coat makes her too hot to do so (she does lie beside you or on the floor by your feet and is very soppy).

GQ sorry to hear of puddytat . I have had loads over the years maybe can beat you on the 50 years. They all leave a sad and empty space to fill - till the next furry comes along. I have had a stray living in our garden for the last few years. I love her. She is sitting on the kitchen window just now as I am cooking a roast chicken and she knows she will get a bit.
