Unexpected legacies

I have just had the pleasure of telling two people who had no idea they were mentioned in a will that they will be receiving a cheque for a few thousand pounds each in the post tomorrow. As one was a cleaner and the other was a hairdresser who my relative hadn't seen for 10 years, both were thrilled beyond belief. On this dank cold Monday January morning, it not only made their day, but being the bearer of good news made mine too. Just wanted to share this very rare high-point of being an Executor.

    How lovely.
One of the positive sides to being an executor.
    Thanks for sharing.

What a wonderful start to their week. Really pleased for both of them. Lovely for you, to be able to spread good news.

For many people, "small" gifts like this can make a big difference. It's a nice thought when you include unexpected gifts in your will that you will brighten someone's day some day.

Lovely, and good to hear such positive news here.

Hopefully these relatives can now keep in touch - double bonus.

I think one was a cleaner and the other was the persons hairdresser, not related to the person who left them the money, still nice to read.:)

Yes indeed! Shortly before he died, my father asked us to give a substantial gift to 2 families who had helped him a great deal. Neither were well off, they were just being neighbourly.
We were able to fulfil his wishes, and make a difference to people who had no expectations at all.

What a lovely story - and very different to some of the threads on here from people who think they've been hard-done-to by deceased relatives.
