Which energy provider with new home?

So me and my partner will be moving into our new home.
We will be moving into a 2 bed ground floor, energy will be used mostly evenings and weekends.
Property has gas and electricity.
How do we decide which energy provider would be best to go with?
Please advise.

You will be in a deemed contract with the existing supplier from the day you move in. Register with them for an account without any lock in and take meter readings immediately. Once that account is set up you are free to commence a switch if you wish.
Use any comp site with your estimated annual usage in kWh (not £££) on each fuel. There is no 'best buy', as it depends on your usage and region. A switch will take between 17 to 42 days.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Whichever is cheapest....
  • So once I move in I will meter reading.
Then how do I find out who the existing provider is to know if there is a contract in place.
Who is liable to pay the bills up to date before I move in?

The account holder is liable to pay the bills.

You can call your Network Operator (electricity) and National Grid (gas) to find out who your supplier is. Alternatively, you can try and approach a supplier. If there is a contract already in place the process will receive an objection and the objection letter will tell you who the supplier is.
  • As an established landlord, one would hope the OP knows all too well how to establish who the utility suppliers are, where this is unknown for any reason...

Could say the same about who is liable to pay the bills.
