Thunderbird works well. It is possible to pretty up the interface up a bit if you want to by choosing a theme, adding an extension or two (one called 'Account colours' used here) and using a custom image for the start-up image in the message area:

I use both 'eM Client' (Free for 2 accounts) and the W10 app.
There is nothing wrong with the built in app for email. It does the job without any fuss and I haven't really had any bother with it.
As for 'eM Client', I just like the layout better than some of the others and the calendar works well for me.

I had used webmail very well for several years but about a year ago was prompted to use a client, settled on Mailbird, good solid performance, I would recommend it

I use Thunderbird, but whatever you use make sure you can see the senders real address. Not just the senders name which is easily changed.

Hovering the cursor over the from address usually shows that in email clients. It certainly does in eM Client.
  • My version of Thunderbird shows the senders name and email address at the top of messages.

I don't remember having to do anything extra to set that.

Long time Thunderbird user, Ctrl+u has always worked for me using Windows.
It's also relatively easy to sync the Thunderbird (Lightning) calendar with your Google calendar.

Just use gmail for everything like any sane person. It will even get mail from your other legacy accounts.
