Both Credit cards together have around a £30000 limit.

Total on both is around £6000, about to pay off the balance on one and maybe add a few hundred to the others minimum payment.
My guess is that limit could be your problem, you have a high limit which means you could if you so wanted run up a big balance and then also have a balance on the new card which could be a problem in the future and they are covering themselves

How many recent credit applications have you made. By saying rejected by other card companies - have you applied to them? If you have made a few applications then it will make it seem like you are desperate for credit and put other lenders off. If you have only gone via your broker, have they made applications or just done soft searches, are they only checking a couple of high street banks and then saying you need to get a builder card. As said join the MSE credit club and see what cards they recommend.

Any ideas on why I could have been rejected by every other credit card company.

Sign of a changing world. Lenders are increasing regulatory pressure to stop people spiralling into financial problems. From being allowed free and easy access to unsecured debt. Borrowing on the never never. As well as getting tighter in obtaining balance transfers. Maximum periods are beginning to shorten. Still a relatively long period but a fundamental change in the market.
