Just in case anyone wants to know what happened...During a friends stay in a 4* hotel I decided to order processo to be waiting to her room as a birthday gift.
I also arranged for her to receive a welcome tray (shortbread, chocolates type of thing) and wrote her a card telling her it was from me and to enjoy.
I also asked for her to receive a room upgrade, this she did receive but there was no charge for this to me.
Several days after her stay she hadn't contacted me to comment on my card or the extras I had paid for, so during our next conversation I discretely enquired about her stay and found out that she did not receive my gift.
I contacted to hotel by email to enquire what had happened and why they had not delivered as promised.
After 2 weeks and no response I contacted again.
Since that I have been advised that they will refund my payment, £35 and offer Sunday lunch for two (£80).
As this was my birthday gift to my friend, whatever compensation I get will be given to her, as thinking she was getting this I didn't purchase anything else for her. Embarrassing, I know!
I have advised that I would like an overnight stay and the prosecco and welcome tray and that I would waive my £35 refund in support of this.
Hotel has said no to this and will stick with their original 'offer'.
So instead of a £120 B&B room the hotel is prepared to offer £115 refund and compensation.
Opinions please on was my request.
I went to quite a personal effort to arrange this surprise and was very disappointed that a 4* hotel handled this so poorly and the hotel was only aware of the failure after I contacted them.
Thankfully I had paid this for a friend and was able to establish it had not been fulfilled, something I would not have known if it was ordered through work for a more corporate colleague or business associate.0 -

If it were me I would have bought my own bottle of Prosecco and a card.0

You went to a lot of trouble ?
You picked up the phone....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
So you want an overnight stay, a welcome tray and the Prosecco?
You have two hopes of that and one of them is Bob.
Take your friend to the lunch and enjoy it.0
