13 month old washing machine

Good evening
We bought a new washing machine 13-14 months ago when we moved into our new house (November 2016)we didn't renew or extend the warranty at twelve months. Since then we noticed that the washing was skipping parts of the wash cycle and that things weren't getting clean. OH called up manufacturer(beko)I believe and they said we had two options
1 - Pay call out charge £170, which if the machine wasn't fixable you lose that money.
2 - take out the plan for £14.49 per month for a year
If the machine wasn't fixable then we wouldn't have to pay the £14.49 but if it was we would be tied in for the year.
So, OH takes out option 2 and repair man comes out and we had a faulty heating element which has now been replaced.
Can anyone advise please??
Sorry for clarification im asking
should we ask for the money back on the £14.49*12 as there was a fault...I don't expect a new washer...but reasonable usage id say 13 months Is not.

Your rights against the manufacturer are based on a warranty. The warranty had expired so the manufacturer unfortunately didn't owe you anything but made you an offer which you accepted.
For future reference your consumer rights are against the trader who sold the product.
(The above assumes you didn't buy direct from manufacturer)0 -
You are now paying £174 pa for service/repair plan? How much did the machine cost?? Greta is correct in saying you should have contacted the machine's supplier first, unless the manufacturer was the supplier. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
