Goodbye 7UP

Just a word of warning to anyone else who avoids artificial sweeteners and who relies on 7 Up when it is the only traditional choice at an ice cream van or a stall, all of whose drinks are stuffed full of aspartame, colouring et al.

7 Up, which was essentially just old fashioned lemonade, has been reformulated and in true US food giant style, the packaging makes it anything but obvious.

Sugar may be harmful (though nothing like as much as zealots claim) but at least its effects are well understood and documented. Nice of them to try and sneak the change in.

    But prefer the sugar version based soft drinks to be honest.

    Not because of any health problems with artificial sweeteners, it's just the fact I am one of the rare people who can taste them and this puts me off them.

    That's why I'm happy Coca Cola will at least give me a choice.

    They are not seeking it in. You do know about the sugar tax coming in March don't you?

    Instead of adding sweeteners the soft drink makers should have cut the sugar level by 10% each year using the best before date as a guide.
    It would be better to be weaned off sugar than adding chemicals in.

    You may be right, time will tell. Personally, I feel the same way about the hype over sugar.

    Instead of adding sweeteners the soft drink makers should have cut the sugar level by 10% each year using the best before date as a guide.
    It would be better to be weaned off sugar than adding chemicals in.

    Or, and here's a revolutionary suggestion, they could allow customers to decide for themselves. They already offer a 'low tar' alternative version.

    This has nothing to do with the USA. 7Up over there would be made with High Fructose Corn Syrup. We are getting a sugar tax soon over here and therefore Pepsi/Britvic have decided to reformulate for the UK market.

    The way it operates has everything to do with the ownership of the company and its management style. A reformulation to avoid the 'sugar tax' may be the reason but the decision to package the product so that it looks identical, marking a change just on the ingredients list is deceitful.

    The UK formulation, marketing and everything has nothing to do with the USA. Britvic and PepsiCo UK operate autonomously, they decide what they need to and what is best for the UK market.

    Its Britvic shares that are affected by the changes to the UK market and therefore they are the ones who need to get the marketing right
