Dyson warranty on ebay purchase

Looking at a Dyson fan on ebay listed as "new (other)" with 2 yr warranty. I checked with the seller to ask if original receipt was included. He said not but "As you can see in the photo there is a Dyson guarantee form in the box, you fill this out and send it off and you’re the registered owner of the Dyson product and the warranty is activated."

If I buy this and register the warranty, then need to claim on it within two years, will the situation be:

- Dyson will accept ebay receipt as proof of purchase?
- Dyson won't accept ebay receipt but will honour warranty based on date of manufacture as established by serial number?
- Dyson won't honour warranty without original receipt?

If you check with Dyson, they say:
Dyson guarantees are transferable with the machine, provided the original proof of purchase from a recognised retailer is supplied, together with evidence of any change of ownership of the machine, confirming that the machine was in good working order when the change of ownership took place.

I'm guessing (although haven't checked) that eBay won't be a "recognised retailer" or that if the original buyer bought from a RR that your guarantee is transferred under their terms.

If you want a warranty, can you buy from Dyson on eBay or price match with Dyson elsewhere?

Isn't the original purchase the one the seller made (if they bought it new) rather than the purchase the op made?

If I'm right that doesn't help the op much as the seller doesn't seem to have the original receipt anyway.

Why is it "New (other)"? If it's been repaired or refurbished by someone other than Dyson there will be no warranty.

    eBay new other:
    New other

A new, unused item with absolutely no signs of wear. The item may be missing its original packaging, or the original packaging has been opened or is no longer sealed. The item may be a factory second, or a new and unused item with minor defects. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

Seller is listing four fans (separately) all described as "Brand new, unused, packaging opened for photographic purposes." Some of them, but not this one, also stated to have some internal packaging missing.

    Seller is a business seller.

A business seller that can't provide any form of proof of purchase for the warranty?

    Sounds dodgy!

I would inform the seller that the warrantly can only be transferred and valid with the original proof of purchase.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

So, the eBay seller isn't authorised and therefore no warranty.

EBay seller can't/won't supply a copy of their purchase to show it was from an authorised seller so no transfer of warranty.

Who knows where they sourced 4 machines from! I certainly wouldn't want to gamble that it has a warranty just because it has a card in the box and I wouldn't want to be chasing an eBay seller to enforce my statutory rights either. PayPal and eBay protection would cover you for a matter of months and after that you may be facing an uphill battle should anything go wrong.

Why not contact Dyson and ask them? I bet you can Bing their details.

OP if you buy this assume no warranty. If the price was right it wouldn't put me off.
