Find a theme for a Wordpress hosted blog

Hi

I want to choose a theme with desired characteristics (e.g. white on black text, single column that fills the whole page, rectangular masthead, title not forced into capitals, etc) for a Wordpress blog hosted on Wordpress servers (i.e. with the url 'blogname.wordpress.com')

In theory, this is how you would do it:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/

but, in practice, they have removed the mentioned filters; and the offered 'previews' bear very little resemblance to what you actually end up with (e.g. "customizable background color" might mean you can change the colour of the entire background OR you might only be able to change a 1cm strip around the edge - you won't know which it is until you have loaded and customised it). It seems the only way to find what you want is to plough through the hundreds of available themes and load, customise and reject each one until you find your prince charming.

Something like this (filterer) would be helpful in narrowing the field, but it seems to be only for themes that you download and use with a blog you are hosting yourself:
https://en-gb.wordpress.org/themes/tags/responsive-layout/

All the help info I can find is on this second scenario (where you are downloading the theme and hosting it yourself, not for (free) blogs that are hosted by Wordpress (i.e. blogname.wordpress.com) format).

Its a bit of a longshot, I know but does anyone know a way of filtering by characterics? Ploughing through them manually is reeeally slow going.

Use Divi 3.0 - it is the best and most customisable theme out there.

I use it on my site here

I think the Wordpress hosted service is rather limited to hosting your own blog - if you can I'd highly recommend going down that route. It's a fairly painful migration which many web hosts would support you with I'm sure.

Been hosting my own Wordpress powered blog for a while and it costs me about £15 a year.

I would have thought that the OP would have come to a conclusion somewhere in the preceding 2½ months!
