Switching to HSBC Advance Bank Account

  • I think i am just short of getting this account which is frustrating. I get 1600 per month but also have a second job which I do once a year meaning I get 1200 on top. This would mean I fail the monthly but get the first 6 months 10500 fine. I also have a mortgage with them so hoped that counted for something.

I'm currently with first direct and was worried I couldn't switch from them
  • So I received another letter from HSBC stating "We wrote to you 2 weeks ago about your recent application for an Advance Account. All we need to process your application is a response to our earlier letter".

Wait a minute....isn't that the letter that stated their internal scoring was such that they could NOT offer me an Advance Account ???:(

Not so much discriminatory as SHAMBOLIC then.

Anyway the bonus deadline has passed now.
I'm in the process of switching to to Halifax (after struggling with a bug in their online application which caused my browser to hang up).

Did that initial letter offer you a standard account instead of the Advance one? (often happens if you don't meet the Advance criteria). If so, then they are right that they cannot progress your application (for an account) without having a response from you.

That response could consist of two fingers of course. ;)

Thank you for adding the terms and conditions.

For those who also need the answer:

"we will make an Initial Offer Payment of £150 within 30 days of the switch completion date. The payment will be made by a direct credit into your Eligible Account."

"we will make the Further Offer Payment of £50 within the 30 day period beginning on the 12 month anniversary of the Eligible Account being
    opened."

    Hope this helps others :)
