Sorry another carers and tax creidts etc Q

Hi,
I would be greatful for input..

I have 5 children and a husband ( sometimes like a 6th child..)
I am trying to work out how much we could get if DH changes from full to part-time and I am SO confused mostly due to the carers allowance I recieve for my son, I have contated the carers ppl here but am waiting for them to get abck to me..
IF DH changes from full-time job to part-time and then earns £120 before tax per week how does it effect DLA?

http://www.dsdni.gov.uk/index/ssa/benefit_information/a-z_of_benefits/carers_allowance.htm

If you scroll to nr the bottom of that page where it talks about rates thats where I get confused!!!!!

So if DH earns £120 per week do I then claim the following?

Carers allowance @

£46.95 Personal Rate benefit
£28.05 Increase for a spouse, partner or other adult dependant
£ 9.25 Increase for eldest/only child dependent
4 x £11.35 for each subsequent dependent child

Plus Child tax credit, child beneift and DLA?

Please anybody who is reading this dont slate me, I have not chosen this life, currently DH works full-time, always has done, but with my special needs son I need 2 of me, no amount of carers support can give me extra hands!
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

  • ))))))))))))))))))HUGS))))))))))))))))))))) No-one will slate you here. I am sorry I cant offer any advice regards the benefits. What I would suggest is that you either contact your local Job Centre and make an appt with a specialist advisor or your local CAB office. They would be able to give you some concrete advice.
I am sure someone more experienced will be along shortly to offer some solid advice.
Good luck and keep posting to let us know how you get on.

I seem to remember you can only claim for other dependents if the CA is your main income and would be covered by other benefits it you claimed them I think.

Lots of useful info on CA and DLA for kids at www.specialkidsintheuk.org. Forum for parents there and info on all aspects of special needs.

I'm lost, I can't see how your partner going part time affects your son's DLA?

Your partner can still get Working Tax Credit working 16 hours
    http://www.taxcredits.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/Qualify/DIQHousehold.aspx
you can type in details of different wages and it will tell you entitlements until the end of the tax year on 5 April 2008. I don't think you have to put in real dates of birth etc when you are just looking.

There is also the entitledto site that can give you information too.

I would suggest an appointment with a Welfare Rights adviser to go through all your information and check what would be best off for you all as it is a bit more complicated with the ICA and 5 children.

Dh going part-time wont change the DLA BUT I am trying to understand if I will recievce an increase in carers allowance, sorry I find it hard to get my point out sometimes, blame it on me being dyslexic ( only just found out a few weeks ago after thinking I was just thick for the last 30 years lol).
I think I need an app with the job centre, I just was not sure where I needed to go for advice, thanks you for advicing I dont want to go to CAB if I can avoid it as I find the waiting lists long.
Thanks eveybody for your kind works.

No Carers Allowance child increases are allowed for new claims, child tax credits pays this now.

Adult additions are only allowed if he was to earn under £29.05 weekly.

No problem, I was trying to see a link between the DLA and part time and couldn't figure it.

It used to be called an In Work Benefit Calculation where they could calculate different wages and benefits at the Benefits Agency pre DWP. I'm not sure what it is called now.

Sometimes where there are different benefits in payment it can get complicated that is why I suggested some help. You could do most of the working out on the sites but it is nice to have someone check it over to make sure.

It is a shame that there are not more benefit advisers or even officers in the DWP who can sit down with people and advise them of their entitlements. There are always announcements of how much has not been claimed by people but how do you know what to claim if no one will look at your circumstances and give you a print out? Trying to see someone seems to take a lot of time and effort.

Some councils have welfare rights officers as part of social work.
