Hi there,
We got a netgear wg111 wireless usb adapter to connect my friends computer to her netgear dg83 router. She is running win xp pro.
I installed the dongle software on my computer also xp pro ..and could connect ok wirelessly but with the following problems which my friends computer has also.
The netgear smart wizard wont connect (although I think it shows as connected) so I configured a connection through xp wireless connections. When the computers start it shows a good signal in system tray and is in "connected state" but we are unable to browse the internet. The solution is to right click on the icon in system tray, view wireless connections, disconnect then connect again, then its ok for internet etc. But having to do this each time the computer starts is a pain in the backside.
Has anyone any experience of the netgear usb dongles and had a similar problem. Another thing I notice is that each time you start your computer you get a dialog box *netgear smart wizard" showing deatils of the connection and there doesn't seem any option other than to close to get rid of it. But the main problem is having to disconnect then connect each time the computer starts in order to get a network connection. Its not the zone alarm firewall or the built in win xp as xp is off and zone alarm has been given full permission.
any help or ideas very greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Have you tried assigning a static IP on the same gateway as your router ? I've seen this problem a few times on various networks and that solved it for me. This may help:
