Earthgirl's Final Battle

Ouch, lifechanging sounds very challenging, earthgirl - be kind to yourself about that, investing in yourself in all sorts of ways is really crucial.
Great holiday plan for London! And seriously, undercutting £50 for the hotel by staying somewhere not nice is absolutely not worth it, not for yourself, and not with children. In any case, £50 is a fantastic price.
I've never done the thing with the iron and bacon (been veggie for so long!). It doesn't sound a good idea, to be honest - I can understand wanting to cut the cost of breakfast, it comes to a lot when its the whole family - could you invest in a tiny little camping stove? One of those ones for £12? Stove, gaz canister, a frying pan that you know will get burned a bit on the outside. I've done that when I've really needed to go away but couldn't afford the extras, it's surprisingly workable. Though I did it in a room with windows that opened - but you'll have a fan attached to the light in the bathroom, and you *might* have a window that opens.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Honestly, very mild, nothing to worry about but I'm just going to mull it over and think about my health a bit more.
I have got a stove, can't bring it as I'm flying and I don't want to set off fire alarms either . Apparently ironing bacon doesn't set off alarms :rotfl: still a bit crazy I know - I just googled diy hotel breakfasts and got that!15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

London sounds like a bargainous trip! Not sure about the bacon/iron thing though! Obviously if other people have done it.....
Could you not take some pastries and spread/jams or is it more about the baconness? (Sorry, like Karma, I haven't had bacon in so long....). Wetherspoons do cheap breakfasts. Definitely wouldn't go down the stove route inside though (not that you're going to) - the risk of CO poisoning is far too high.
Thanks for posting on my diary - I'm sorry, I've been a bit rubbish at keeping up lately, but I do read. You've got a lot of changes going on at the moment, with OH's business and now your diagnosis - I can see why it you might be struggling. Will have the trip booked help with motivation?
Have you got students over the summer again? I can't remember.
The seed library sounds fantastic - wish we had one here. I have loads of seeds now well past their best, that I wish someone else had been able to benefit from.

Why not make some cheese and bacon turnovers to take with you, they're lovely cold.
I doubt there'd be an iron in the room anyway, they don't tend to have them now."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Just a thought - do you know that the China job run a summer school? Fairly soon there will be early morning hours available 7 days a week. You can either book the whole lot or just apply for part time hours as they become available.
Hope the health issue isn;t too serious. My asthma returned recently after a 25 year break, very tediousUpdating soon...0 -
Thanks for the comments and suggestions!
Feeling great. Next time I'm feeling overwhelmed (or underwhelmed!) I'll do the same thing- 15 mins on one action point to get things moving!
Things generally going well with health. Enjoying life in the garden and with the dcs. Still too much screen time for me so reducing that today.
The London trip came about as I got two free legoland tickets, my nephew will gift the other two very cheaply via his work discount system. I always thought we'd show the children the sights so it seemed like a good time to do this, with a budget of £500.
I'm working on a new budget and banking so will be back soon!15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

Thanks, and thanks for commenting.
Thanks the madvix - yes I have students this summer.
I have spent £16 at the dentist today, but all is well. Wisdom teeth coming through though -aged 37!
I have redone my budget, and including my weekend job and the lodger income of £400/month, we have £2738 coming in. Allowing £50 for food per week, £60 / month for wine, and £40 for eating out per month, we spend £2186.
So with no income from OH, we have a surplus of £500 / month. I'm really surprised about this, I thought we'd be losing cash each month the OH doesn't contribute, but we are not. OHs company pays for oil heating in winter and some other hosehold items such as lightbulbs. If his company totally folded my costs would go up again, but with the lodger we break even.
I have also redone my bamking totals. We now owe only £2205 on the mortgage.
We have overpaid £9482 since January, £1896 per month, which is above my monthly target of £1000 overpayment and £400 travel.
I have students coming in the summer which will be another boost. I've also got summer lunch club to do which should bring in about £240.
I am really encouraged by this as we could strip back more if we needed to.15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j
