I have had three calls this evening from 090579. There is no-one at the other end and when I try to dial the number it doesn't ring. After searching Google I note that the number is premium rate.
My question is why is this number calling me? If I can't get them back then they cannot be getting anything out of calling me.
Does anyone have experience of this please?

If anyone gets a missed call from a number starts with 070 or 09xxx its almost definitely a scam designed to get you to call them back so they can earn money from the call.
Try checking the full number against this checker.
PhonepayPlus is the regulator for these numbers

That is the odd thing - that is the complete number that came up on my phone and the number given when I dialled 1471. It is obviously not a usual 11 digit number so I really do not understand this.0

ive just had this number call me...the same, someone hung updidn't know whether to even answer it at first, can you be charged to even answer a phone call ???very unusual number...would love to know if its a scam or not0

Calls you recieve can not be charged against you, there is only one exception and that is if you are in another country and have a mobile. Calls to the mobile will incure a charge to yourself.

Calls in the UK never work this wayTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
