i wouldnt recommend this for customs charges
you can but if that card got lost you could be out a lot of money!!
far better to use the reference number on the card(your items unique tracking number) and pay online at www.royalmail.com/fee2pay
your item will then be put out for delivery like a normal package
if going to the delivery office then take cash as ive yet to hear of a delivery office taking cards though allegedly some do

I saw there was an attempted delivery on the 11th in the online tracking but they didn't leave anything. I got a letter from ParcelForce through the post today though. I'll collect it from the depot and pay the charges there.

thats a 'glitch' on the tracking
its to do with them allocating the item as a customs charge

That'll be why the 'attempted delivery' was only 3 minutes after it arrived at the "delivery unit". I thought it seemed a bit odd.
Anyway I've got my shiny new watch now:D
I got a bit lost on the big trading estate looking for the depot but then I got on the tail of a Royal Mail van and followed that to the depot - the wrong depot. The ParcelForce one was somewhere else!:o
  • I have found a really good website for electrical equipment.
How much would i pay, for example, "Desktop Computer - £150" to be shipped into this country from China?
  • After spending a few hours comparing the shipping rates for all the package forwarding companies mentioned in this forum and other forums on the web, I found out that Viaddress.com at offers the lowest shipping rates according to the shipping calculators on all those sites.
Their Package forwarding service is actually FREE !, with NO set up fees and NO monthly membership fees and they also offer FREE Concierge Service!!! While other companies charge you 5% to 15% commission fee. It also says on their website that they have the biggest Personal shopper service on Ebay.com in the US.
Well… All of these good points convinced me to try them… and I’m glad I did...
I have used them to shop from Ebay in the US and on other couple of US sites that didn't ship outside the US and I was able to save a lot on shipping by combining all my boxes in one large box for FREE! You can do this by using the package consolidation tool in your account area on Viaddress.com.

  • I quite agree that Viaddress.com at viaddress.com offers the lowest shipping rates to forward packages from the US to other countries. Anyone can do a comparison of the shipping rates and find out that Viaddress is the best option if you’re planning to shop from US merchants.

The fact that they don’t have a Setup fee or a monthly membership fee, had convinced me to use them for my last purchase from the states, and I’m quite satisfied with the speed of the processing of my packages.

I decided to follow them on twitter at twitter.com/viaddress and I got hold of some pretty generous coupons that I used to get some pretty darn good discounts!

    Hi
Does anyone know, do EU/UK import (Customs and VAT) duties and limits apply to second-hand goods purchased in the US and brought back into the UK? These are not "antiques" or valuables or the like, nor goods resold for the purpose of trying to get around any duty, just ordinary "pre-owned" stuff off ebay that is really much cheaper in the US than back home in the UK.
    Many thanks.

It makes no difference if the goods are new or secondhand, it's just the value that Customs are interested in.
