Ebay tripledeal escrow

Options
Hi all

I am selling a ring on ebay. The ring is worth c.£3,000

The buyer wants to use escrow via www.tripledeal.com.

I have looked on ebay and they are a registered escrow company.

Has anyone used them before?

I know that the buyer stipulates the terms and conditions, but i had not heard of this method before and it sounds reasonable given the value and nature of the ring.

Thanks
Mig

Is this a winning buyer? Buyers can't dictate terms to you.

I don't know of any escrow sites to recommend.

What payment method were you intending to get?

paypal, but that was because i had not heard of escrow until this seller mentioned it.

i can see why they would want to use escrow. just the case of it being genuine is my only concern.

HHmm, where abouts does it check out on ebay as registered only a google search rather suggests they are not a registered escrow service at all.

However there does appear to be some confusion about different companies with a similar name so it may be that this company is the genuine one.

However, no way what I be letting a buyer dictate terms to me especially when I wasn;t sure exactly how I was covered, if at all, for the buyer claiming non delivery or doing any sort of chargeback.

I've taken a lot of time and care working out how to use paypal as safely as I can, before I trusted any other third party to handle my money I would want to check them out just as thoroughly.

Right I've found them on ebay make sure you read everything on the website before you go ahead and also make sure the buyer is prepared to pay all the costs. You must have complete and fully insured delivery and you'll need to see what services the escrow company allow you to use.

Read everything, read it twice and then read it again before agreeing to anything.

Triple Deal escrow looks like might be ok. Triple Deal seem to be a part of Conclusion B.V.

One concern is they’re Dutch. If there are problems, you’re going to be left dealing with a Dutch company and Dutch law. The website claims that the buyer-seller money is held separately in a “foundation”. I’d assume that’s the Dutch equivalent of an English Trust, so that’s good. However, trust law is some of the most complicated British law. I’ve no idea what Dutch law is like and if it offers the same protection and safe guards.

More worrying is the website’s terms and conditions.
Because the General Conditions are fairly substantial in size, people using Internet services often do not familiarise themselves with these conditions. This is why Triple Deal has chosen, for the moment, to present Users with only a summary of the most important aspects of the General Conditions.
So, they’re not going to bother to tell us, because they reckon we wouldn’t read them, even if they did.

Soolin’s advice is good. It could be taken further. £3,000 is probably not the size of transaction to be testing out a company that’s new to you.

On something of this value the only method is would use is cash (or checkable uk bankers draft) in hand.

The possibilities for getting robbed are endless and all this applies treble if it’s an overseas buyer.

Actually, cross bank draft of the above list
