Their plan is to change you to their platinum account which charges around £15pm, try and get you to take out life cover and book you in with their tied sales advisor for a range of cross sales. All of which cost a lot more than you can get on the open market.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I keep getting offered a 'chat' over the phone. However, I always refuse. Afterall they will be trying to sell you products that are tied to the company they are working for. Go by all means, but be aware that their job is to make money, they don't really care about what is best for you.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

I had an invite from LLoydsTSB before Christmas. When I went all she literally wanted to do was look over my account to see if they were offering the best service. At no point did she try and sell me anything, which I had been expecting. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least !
I think it's all part of them trying to make themselves look pink and fluffy tbh0 -

I phoned my bank yesterday to cancel a magazine subscription - when they offered me a chat to discuss my savings etc.
Thanked them but stated that "my cousin is an IFA so I am sorted out thanks"
This stopped them in their tracks!
It does the same when I am offered anything from double glazing to new kitchen etc " my cousin is .... builder, furniture rep etc"
I have never met this "cousin" but feel sure that I have one somewhere!;)"This site is addictive!"

You lot are all so cynical!! I quite often (at Abbey) have my area manager phone up and ask how much I've saved my customers that day. Yes we have sales targets, but we aren't the cold hearted selling machines you might think we are. I'd suggest going along to meet them and see what they suggest, but don't take any ID with you. That way they wouldn't be able to sign you up for anything there and then, as legally ID has to be produced before opening any new account. See what they say, then post it on here and see if it's a good deal!0

Approximately 75% I visit Lloyds, whether to pay in a cheque or to ask a question (it's the only way to get a decent answer now their calls are dealt with offshore), they try and flog me the Platinum account. The usual wording is "did you know you are eligible for an upgraded account?". Ooooh, I am so privileged! It annoys me. There must be something on the screen that flags me up, but couldn't it also flag the fact I've said no 20 times already?! The benefits do not make it worthwhile for me, and that's exactly what I tell them.
I prefer my boring green-and-blue cash machine card anyway. I feel less of a target. Not that Gold or Platinum means anything these days.0
