BMW Service intervals

F30 320d. The car itself thinks service intervals of around 21k or up to 2 years are sufficient. Honest John and 'The internet' does not, particularly if one doesn't want the cam chain to eat itself later in life. HJ suggests 10k. I am inclined to agree, 21k is rather a long time with the same oil. My local independent specialist agrees with BMW and is very reluctant to take my money every 10k. I therefore seek further opinions from 'the internet'. :rotfl:

just get an interim oil change done anywhere and if you wish to use BMW for servicing as per schedule do so without telling them.

If you plan to keep the car for some time then a 10k or yearly oil change will be money well spent.

DIY oil and filter is cheap if you feel confident.

Crucial detail I missed, I do 20k+ a year so even on BMW intervals it'll be changed annually at least.
Eurgh, no, life it too short to mess around with such things!

No I've no intention of going anywhere near the dealer with it, because they are overpriced and useless.

With that mileage I would consider going somewhere like:
    https://www.national.co.uk/oil-change?gclid=Cj0KCQiAkNfSBRCSARIsAL-u3X-MxxUXxc037lX9KdnMx8Rd_rwUpok9B56EUYzFGfof2OZGJNST19IaAoUjEALw_wcB
Convenient and cheap for basic oil and filter.
I would still do 10k changes, few quid a year could save a lot more in time.

My E90 did 194K without a hitch, with similar annual mileage and service intervals. I intend doing the same with the current car which has just passed 67K - so my internet opinion is follow the BMW guide!

My e46320d which did 130K miles, my e90320d which did 78K miles and my current f30 330d all had/have full BMW Service history with oil changes as the Computer Based Servicing demanded.

However I change the oil filter at halfway between oil-changes - note that's an extra filter change at around 9 to 10K miles without changing the oil.

Additionally I change the air-filter at every oil-change - not at every 2nd one as BMW recommend.

No hassle with timing chains or any other engine problems.

And if there were, BMW are going to fix it - on the extended BMW warranty.
