Someone else has diverted their landline to ours

Just spent a very frustrating day taking calls for Mrs *******. Returned a couple of messages yesterday too and having checked, there have been a few calls from the estate agent too - he's tried to fathom out whats happened as the number he's calling is nothing like ours! Checked with BT, and it isn't a fault but a divert to our landline from someone elses home phone.
However, an hour later and BT tell me that it isn't a BT number so there is nothing that they can do.
Estate agent actually asked for Mrs ******** and now that he's said the name, we've very often had calls for someone of that name.
But according to BT, there's nothing they/I can do about it.
Any ideas anyone - The estate agent had a moby contact for them but he said it was switched off and that they were told to only contact them at weekends on it (he has left a message anyway).
I'm at my wits end - I dont even know where to start with other possible providers for the number?

It may sound daft, but have you checked to make sure your number is still on the line?0

Yes I have done that and BT are adamant that there is no fault on the line either. It aint over til I've done singing....0

just tell teh callers the other person is dead. they'll stop calling soon.0

If it is not a BT number, it is likely to be a cable number. Could you call them?Gone ... or have I?0

Tried all the cable companies I could think of - Sky, Virgin and TalkTalk and all of them deny all knowledge of it!It aint over til I've done singing....0

Go to www.magsys.co.uk and enter the number in there, it will tell you which company owns/rents the number from them.
Click Code Lookup to get to the checker.0
