Car Hire in UK thro' Tesco vouchers.

I have been examining the possibility of 9 days car hire with Avis in this country using my Tesco vouchers. Avis quote two different prices, the first being a "pay now" rate and the other being a "pay later" rate. The first price was £272 and second, which is the one charged if you use Tesco vouchers is £563 - more than double. I was gobsmacked by this price and so was the customer services rep. who appeared to be new to the job. Do you think I am being quoted correctly.

I have booked other things with Tesco vouchers and the rate for us Tesco wallers is always much higher . For this reason I sometimes pay cash even in cases where vouchers are taken and save the vouchers for better value things with companies with less differences in cash/tesco price.

I have been told by the manager at an autocentre that he only gets back half the value so cannot offer good deals on them .

My thanks to bestyman and richardw for your replies and helpful advice. My concern with this particular enquiry was that Tesco/Avis were so out of kilter given the fact that the quote was more than double. I have read on other threads that they sometimes charge a little extra but more than double seems way over the top. I just wondered if an error had been made?
