16-18 year olds' savings accounts

saw a brief thread on this with postings from 2005 but nothing more recent: what's on offer out there for 17 year olds? They seem to fall between the two stools of child and adult savings but this age group often need short (1-2 yr) term high paying savings accounts to save for gap year/uni start up. Any suggestions?

I would suggest you look at the HSBC and Nationwide offerings - both of their 'child' accounts are available to under 18's.

Also one can open a Cash ISA at 16+
