Pensions and Means Tested Benefits

Options
This is probably a stupid question but I'm looking into various options for my son as he'll be transitioning from child to adult disability related benefits over the next few years. I currently pay a regular amount from his DLA into a savings account for him (where it's locked in for a year) so he has a small savings pot at the moment. I also pay a very small amount into a pension for him (again from his DLA).

What I'm wondering is, would the money that's been paid into his pension also count as savings for the purposes of means tested benefits?

Thanks in advance :)

No, because it is not accessible by him.
Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.

Thank you, Alice Holt, that's very helpful :)
  • As Alice rightly says a pension won't be counted but other savings over £6000 will reduce means tested benefits.

Thanks, Venison, the pension would take him over £6,000 but he's under (by quite a bit) without that taken into account. It's unlikely he'll ever be able to work so I want his (relatively small) income to work as hard as possible for him but I'm anxious about doing something wrong so checking every little thing as it comes up :) This forum is so helpful, thank you :)
