HC2 Certificate........

I have one of these which I got when I was on Contributions Based JSA, I have now started a job which is 16+ Hrs , it's 16 at the moment but when I get into it I will be doing more. Can I still use the certificate to get free Medical treatment and prescription or is it now invalid. I don't want to use it when I shouldnt.

It was given to you based on your circs at the time so it will be different now. You might still get it based on income but you do need to tell them.

I was under the impression that the certificate was valid for the length stated, irrespective of a change in circumstances? I can't find any information to clarify this either way?

  • I'll give them a call this week to double check it. It would be nice if I could use it until it becomes invalid next year. Why do they have them last a year if you might not be able to use it for that long.

I think it's ok to use it until it expires, but best to check this.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

I was wrong :embarasse. Your certifcate should last 6 months and you don't have to tell them when you circumstances change within this period. Sorry

In some cases it can be a year, or even longer. I am not sure how they decide how long they award them for - mine used to be six months, but now they are a year.

The only reason I know is because I used to work for the PPA. Ironically, due to them extending my certificate from six to twelve months, I was eligible for free prescriptions through most of my employment with them (pretty handy as I have approx seven items each month)! x

Edit: For those not eligible who require several prescriptions, you can buy a 'pre payment certificate' (actually credit card shaped!), which can be very good value. It is £26.85 for three months, and £98.70 for twelve months.

  • I only have 2 things on prescription, but would need help with opticians and dentist costs. My thing Is valid for a year, Is no-one here certain? I'll have to phone then.

According to this site it's between 6 months and 5 years so we were all in the dark ;)
