Advice on PPI

I have decided to look into a PPI claim. looking through Forums it advises to do this yourself and not use a company, however with my circumstances I feel its my only option or I should forget about it all together, any advise would be well received .
I have no paperwork , no account details , basically I have nothing . Between 1995 and 2009 I changed my cars every couple of years all of the financed . I purchased through AFN Porsche Reading, Chipperfield Range Rover , BMW Heathrow. I have contacted them all to ask what finance companies they used in these years with all saying they don't know , as the companies have all changed since then.
I did finance further cars personally through Black horse finance through Lombard .
I have contacted these 2 and have been told they cannot do anything without account details and anyway if the finance was paid off over 7 years ago I couldn't claim anyway .
I'm sure I would have had PPI as back then I just signed anything to get a new car !!
is it time to forget about it and just accept im one of the people who wont get anything back ?

It doesn't matter which finance companies they used. You need to complain to the seller, not the lender.
Anything before 2005 will be pre regulation.
Whatever you do, don't use a claims company. You will need to give them all the details so they can post your complaint for you.0 -

Car dealers became regulated in Jan 2005. So, they wont consider pre-2005 sales. So, its only 2005 to 2009 you need to worry about. Most had pulled out selling PPI over 2008 to 2009. So, you have a smaller window you can focus on.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
