Paypal/Collection

I have been made aware that if someone pays by paypal, collects the item, they can claim a full refund via paypal and I cannot do anything about it even if I have a signed receipt. Surely this cannot be true. Does anyone know??

Yes it is true, because if they start a claim stating 'item not received' the only proof Paypal will accept if the reference/tracking number. If you met the person and gave them the item, you will have no proof.:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0

Yes its the tracking number from Royal Mail/DHL/ etc etc than can actually prove delivery. If you are selling something on ebay that is for collection only, you will need to put in CASH on collection only. Although, I had a look at your other posts, and its about a car? I have seen some people on ebay saying '£50 deposit and rest on collection' or similar. However, again, I don't know how they could then protect this deposit. I have always found 'soolin' (think thats the user name) is always very knowledgeable on ebay - perhaps you could pm him?:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0

Cars work differently with paypal - a paypal deposit is considered an intangible item and therefore it shouldn't be possible to reclaim it dishonestly.
Other than that - yes, it's all true - NEVER take paypal on a collected item. A signed receipt, a photo of the buyer taking the item away... none of these are acceptable - only proof of delivery (NOT proof of postage)
I don't think it's that crazy a policy. If the item is something that is too big to post, just insist on cash on collection, or bank transfer. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Thank you for taking up my suggestion and checking on this forum...as you can see my worries were justified.
The policy that paypal has re collection is very sensible..why accept paypal and pay all the fees when you are meeting someone in person and can take cash anyway?
The allowable methods for proof of delivery are here:

That would be the logical thing to do, however as per my statement on the other thread they can refuse and insist on you abiding by the terms of your auction and if you refuse to do so and they complain then a warning and/or another neg may cost you your account.
Likewise it is unfortunate that you have agreed to deliver the car for free.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
