Avon Rep For Myself?

I've just been talking to a very pushy woman on the phone - nice with it, but yeah, forceful
I had rung to ask if there were any reps in my area and if they could leave me a book, but for some reason they got confused and thought I was asking about becoming a rep.
I explained that I didn't want to be a rep, I was just asking if there was anyone in my area and she said that I could become a rep for myself - pay the £15 over two orders and then I'd get money off and special catalogues for reps and stuff and it'd be much cheaper than ordering on the web as I'd get a staff discount as it were.
Has anyone else recommended this, or does anyone else do it? Is it a common practise thing that works for you, or is it a big no no?
Thank you

its £20 not £15 and it depends on ur area. In n.i the area i did was fab and i could get lots of orders, im in liverpool now - people wont even open their door to hand u the bloody books back even when they r in grrr, out of 80 books in my last campaign i got 23 back! only 9 sales out of about 130 houses. You also have to pay for your books you use to give people. If you think ur area would be good to sell in then yes do it! it can work out very well. If you dont think they can be bothered etc then deffo dont!0

Nothing worse than people who put books through your door then come and harass you for them back
Betterware are bad for this
If you put a catalogue through my door then dont expect it back0 -
It all depends on whether you want to go door to door posting and then collecting books then returning with goods ordered (often several times as people are out, or don't have any money on them) I used to be a rep in 2 streets and some compaigns i made a decent amount but rarely, the biggest plus for me was they were always having offers for example buy 2 get one free or spend £15 or more get a free hairdryer. When you get several customers who order just 1 from the offer items you can combine it on your order and you get all the free stuff. I no longer go door to door but have kept my account open for myself and mom as by having an account you get free delivery, no matter how small your order plus you still get the reps brochures which are cheaper than the main brochure and have the products 2 compaigns before they come out in the main brochure, you can only order 1 of each item though. You have to place an order at least every other compaign in order for you account to stay open so if you pay to open a account and then don't order for a bit your account gets closed.
The person you spoke to on the phone will be the area sales manager and they get commision for each new rep they sign up plus they have targets for each compaign so they have to be pushy people to keep there job. Don't be pushed if its not what you want, you can order online without an account but will have to pay a delivery charge.Debt at LBM £10,133.58 23/6/07:eek: DFD May 2009

Ive just become an avon rep (for the third time in my life)
Avon charge an administration fee in the first 2 campaigns and supply your first two lots of brochures.
You order brochures 2 campaigns in front though so your first order comprises of :
Brochures.......depending on how many you think you will need.
Admin fee of £7.50
Bags.....you have to buy the paper bags to put the goods in.
So all in all the extras have cost me nearly £20 this time.
I seem to have got a pretty good patch though. I sold almost £400 on my first go but realise this level of spending won't stay the same once xmas is over.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
I've been an Avon rep in the past and like everyone has said, it depends on your area really. But be warned - if you get a rubbish area where nobody is interested you can easily end up OUT of pocket (buying books, bags etc and the odd "bargain buy" that you decide you need!).
Good luck if you do decide to go for it!0 -
Its soooo much better to order stuff from Avon via their website. You get the same offers, much much quicker delivery (couple of days compared to up to 6wks via brouchure), free delivery over £20, access to their clearance section if you spend over £25 and if you go through Quidco, you get 15% cashback (and at the minute an extra £5 if you spend over £30).0

I have heard of people Joining just to get this discounts, Maybe even if you did not want to be a Salesperson you could at least share the discounts with your friends and family and make enough extra cash to pay for the product you want for yourself..0

have been an avon rep twice and both times i gave up and wont go back to it again, its ok at xmas time you can make £100 for 3 campaigns which runs every 3 weeks so thats about £300 to help with xmas, thats with a good area though, i'd do it for xmas only but you cant just do that! lol you have to do the rest of the year or they take you asigned area off you, in the end i was making about a 5er for 8 hours work plus my bok costs which were about £5 and petrol prob making a loss in the end and was soo stressfull, too many people ordering stuff you think you've made a bit of cash on it and then they want to send it back, you dont make anything on that item even though you delivered it in the first place and then picked it up and sent it back to avon!
also people are never in when you want to deliver i had to set 3 night aside every 3weeks just to deliver stuff and catch people in that hadnt been in the night before, waste of time.0 -
My families been doing Avon for years. My Mum's taken over it completely now, and makes very good money (she's in their "President's Club" and someone she referred makes about £2500 a month (commission, not sales!!).
She spends less than 5 hours a week on it though; theyre doing it full-time.
Top tips? Print off your own notices stating clearly when the books will be collected, an canvas your area 2+ campaigns in a row (the entire area) at the beginning and ask who (if anyone) has the surrounding areas. Canvas them too if no-one has them (not simultaneously with your area, its too time consuming) in the same manner and get more and more areas - but don't keep canvassing those areas regularly - and this applies to your area too.
Best way to do it (if you've got a car) is to try and canvas as much of the local area as possible, you'll end up with regular customers all over your town, and then if someone wants an area you've got customers in, let them I suppose - she does, but you get to keep the people you've already got in that area (so they get whatevers left lol).
By doing this she makes about £30 an hour, and if she didnt have a well paid full-time job that she enjoys would make even more.
EDIT: Also, she's never done this, but I don't think canvassing Betterware at the same time is a bad idea (if they allow that) - it doesn't take any extra time, and they're both profitable in a good area.0 -
I had an AWFUL time as a rep! Used to live in a very quiet area, but got £100+ of orders a time, fair enough, they would dump the parcel at the bottom of our lane, on the main road, when they were meant to have a signature, they never had the items I wanted - one xmas order made in september wasn't completed until feb, they promised me credit on the items I never recieved, so I made another order, paid, and the order never arrived, and I called and called and asked to see who signed it, and they said nobody had and it wasn't thier problem and kept charging me fines for not fully paying the order, dispite the fact I had over £50 in owed credit. After letters and letters and threats of balieffs (i was 16), and the rep that signed me up nowhere to be seen, I got my police officer neighbour on the case, and he had a word with them over the phone, never heard anything off them again.
NEVER dealing with Avon again, it was stressful, useless service, thieves (I lost about £130 all in told). Worst experience of my life.~*Cerenia*~
