Built- in wardrobes

My son would like some custom-made wardrobes in his bedroom. It is a 1920s house and so the recesses suitable for the wardrobes are not regular shaped.
Is it better to get in the firms specialising in these (Sharps/Nevilles etc) or to try to get a local joiner to do them?
I would welcome advice from anyone who has had similar jobs done and a rough estimate of cost per wardrobe.

Local Joiners everytime. The national companies will mostly be limited to melamine faced Chipboard with kitchen style hinges whereas your local Joinery workshop will be fat more flexible with materials and design..
Price wise really depends on the above. The simpler the design the cheaper they are likely to cost.0 -
We are looking to do something similar, we were going to get a builder to partition (plaster board) off a section of the room and put a couple of sliding bi-fold doors on it and then put some modular wardrobe type setup (such as Ikea's Algot system) inside, so that it is a flexible space and it should be cheaper and more flexible than a wood based solution. We don't have any quotes yet though0
