Cheap Couple Holiday

My partner and I are hoping to go away on holidays next summer (between May ‘18-Aug ‘18), and would love to go to a place that’s near the beach and away from all the hustle and bustle of the city.

However...
We are both university students with not much money, and therefore can’t afford to spend that much on the holiday. We also cannot drive so we would be relying on public transport/by foot to get us around.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

(Ps. We are able to fly from London - Any, Southampton or Bournemouth Airports)

Consider camping to keep costs down -- maybe in the coming months you will be able to pick up a tent cheaply or get given one.

As for location: Greece, and specifically the island of Crete, are likely to offer several suitable locations.

Thank you; we have considered camping - the only issue for us being getting the equipment there as we don’t have a car

have you thought of a coach holiday to Spain. these can be very cheap holidays and the coaches nowadays are very comfortable. you can get anything from a s/c chalet to AI in a hotel for good prices.

As Voyager2002 has said Greece is usually very affordable. Bigger islands, like Crete, Corfu, Zante or Rhodes have a variety of resorts for all tastes and are fairly cheap. For example, you could stay self catering in Kavos, Corfu for around £180 pp (plus spending, luggage etc) in June when the weather would be lovely. Going out of high season (i.e. May - mid July) will also keep costs down. My daughter (also at Uni) went to Faliraki with a friend last year for £350 for 10 days - that included flights, accommodation, meals and spending money.

What about the sun holidays they do campsites abroad you just need to do your homework and check flight prices before you book the sun hol. Skyscanner is good for flight comparisons and there is a fab group on facebook called The sun holidays £9.50/£15 where you can get lots of help and info.
You would also need to check transfers or public transport for the campsites you are interested in. We've been to both Italy and Spain the campsites they use are Eurocamp so it is worth having a look on their website as well for info.

How much do you want to get away from everything?

We like Cabanas in Portugal. Flights to Faro can be got for less then £100 per person ( take hand luggage only, don't book seats, take a sandwich). You can get a bus and train to Cabanas or shared taxi bus

A one bedroom self catering can be as little as £150 a week, even less depending on season

The resort is tiny. Has great walks and cycling, next to nothing in the way of nightlife, but there's a bus and train and you can travel all along the coast for very little money

We will usually take the bus to Travia and hit the hyper market for groceries for the week as there's more selection and it's cheaper. Eating out is dead cheap as well, if you pick well. Some of the little cafes do really huge meals for very little and most of them do wine and beer for €1

The beach is across the river, very little on it so we take a cool bag and a beach umberella ( as do most people )

We find accomadation on trip advisor and have found the apartments we have had excellent with washing machines, full kitchens and usually the cool bag and umberella

It really is a place where you just sit and watch the world go by, or hire a bike and explore ( it's very flat )
