Hotmail read receipts queries

I access my hotmail account (an old one, it’s .com) either through a laptop or my company I pad.
One of my correspondents requests a ‘read receipt’.
If I access the e mail on the laptop I see this request, on the I pad I don’t.
My question is will the iPad ‘automatically’ send a read receipt?
And I assume the receipt merely confirms the message has been read?

All receipts prove is that the email was opened. It doesn't mean that it was "read".
Last I checked Hotmail (through the website) didn't support receipts and it needed a third party client (such as Live Mail or similar) to add that functionality. So if you're logging into Hotmail via the website on the iPad then you won't see receipt receipts.0 -

That figures, this particular correspondent is a bit of an IT geek, to put it mildly - I appreciate it doesn't show I read it; but that I opened it. I am not particularly minded to kowtow to correspondents so I would rather not send a receipt.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
