HELP: Windscreen chipped - repair or replace??
Hi all,
Yesterday had the unforunate incident and my screen now has two chips (one largish and the other small), both next to each other.
I checked my insurance and chips are repaired as part of the fully comp policy, and a windscreen replacement will incur a £75 xs.
This morning I popped down to autoglass, who first tell me they can give it a go but said they cannot guarantee the repair but siad it would still have some marks (which I think I am prepared to live with!!). Then they said it would be better to replace the screen, which would only cost me £75 (xs). They said my no calims would not be affected.
I am concerned that either doing the repair or replacing the screen will affect my renewal as this would count as a claim? If so affecting my insurance premium when I go to a new insurer, is this correct?
I am tempted to pay for the repair to avoid any increase in renwewal costs.
Any advice on this please....
Thanks

Repairs/replacement of screen do not count as a claim and will not affect NCD.
I think it would be worth getting the free repair and see how that goes first, if not satisfactory you can then pay the £75. for the replacement, doing it this way you may not have to pay the £75, but if you do at least you had a go at the free route.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Windscreen repairs don't affect your insurance (unless due to accident damage, of course - stone chips don't count).
Go for the repair - but be aware that if they try to repair it and it cracks, you might have to have it replaced anyway. They can normally repair chips up to the size of a £1 coin.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Isn't that what I have said ?:DDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
I have had a couple of screens repaired, never as good as new but prevents further damage and is, or rather was free. I have just taken out a new policy with the Pru and there is now a £15 charge for screen repairs and £75 for a new one. So maybe the end of "free" repairs is coming.0
