Thanks for that. Not wishing to sound like a Luddite Grinch, but I just read a review of CC and among other things, it said:

"If you’re a BT customer and have BT Home Hub, you may come across some issues when setting up your Chromecast thanks to BT’s Smart Setup feature. Usually, this fires your newly connected device over to a BT Broadband splash page and that can cause issue for devices that don’t have a web browser built in. Don’t worry though, if this seems to be happening to you, disable Smart Setup on your Home Hub 4 or 5 before you connect your Chromecast.
Whats the issue there is a workaround.

Where available, the Chromecast supports surround sound, such as 5.1 from Netflix content. If you want to use this, you'll be best off plugging the Chromecast directly into your surround-sound amp. You can run an optical cable from your TV to your amp instead, but this doesn't always work, as many TVs only pass on stereo sound in this way.

    Not an issue for me.

As good as iPlayer, Now TV and BT Sport are, it's a real shame that there's no ITV Player, 4oD or Demand Five support at the moment. Nor is there support for Sky Go. Admittedly this is the same as with the Apple TV, but it's frustrating that so many of the UK's big TV stations won't take this kind of technology seriously and enable support."

The stuff in bold drives me batty.

Wrong, Apps include with current names:

STV Player, ITV Hub, All 4, My 5, BT Sport, Eurosport Player,
BBC I Player TV and radio, Motorsport TV, Rakuten TV, Red Bull TV, YouTube, Netflix and the list goes on and on.

Update: Problem solved. Coincidentally, later in the day I originally posted, I received a notification that Dell updates were available. One of the three updates was for the video driver. After running the updates and restarting, video and audio problems when playing via HDMI were completely resolved (have now tried on both tellies).

Glad I didn't have to buy yet another gadget.

Augh. So, having used the laptop successfully with my two large-screen TVs on four occasions, it is now back to reality agaain.

Used it Friday night to watch BT Sport. Left it set up. Tried to watch it again for BT Sport last night and (a) video back to its jerky style, and (b) no sound at all!

I've tried every combination of procedures, in different order, shut down computer, started it up again, while connected and while disconnected, Tried connecting then launching BT Sport, and vice versa.

Will try again tonight but am assuming I'll end up just having to watch on laptop, as I did last night. I am very reluctant to buy yet another gadget as there is no guarantee it won't also be subject to what I term "the usual tech glitches".
