Severe Disability Premium

Hi all

I've been trying to help a friend with this, they have recently started sofa surfing and they recieve a severe disability premium. Have read up that you can lose it if you are not classed as 'living alone.' Would sofa surfing mean that they would lose their SDP?

Most likey yes because they're not living alone or classed as living alone. Has the changes been reported? if not then your friend needs to ring DWP Monday. Was the person claiming housing benefit/Council tax reduction? if so then these need to be told too.

Your friend will also need to give DWP an address. At some point in the future he'll be re-assessed for his benefits and they will send him forms. If he doesn't return them then his benefits will stop.

Your friend may not lose the SDP as the regulations are not simply about living alone.
They actually say 'has no non defendants with whom the claimant normally resides'.
The meaning of non dependent is somewhat complicated, sorry.
