Proposing abroad, how to insure ring

I plan to propose to my partner in Jamaica on holiday in a couple of weeks. I have a ring but I need to get it insured as it is expensive (for my budget). However this is where the challenges arise. Our house insurance is in my partners name, so i cannot get the ring insured without arousing suspicion. I looked at the separate jeweller but the minimum term is a year. I have not yet checked if it covered by our travel insurance but it is in both names and again may arouse suspicion (she is a younger Miss Marple!). Any other ideas?

Also I may need to get it valued/certificated first, where can I do this at quite short notice?

Surely, you can check the limits of your travel insurance policy with arousing suspicion.

I proposed abroad and was actually more worried about the ring attracting attention when going through airport security and giving the game away than losing it.

I would just leave the ring at home, if you feel you must have a ring to propose then buy a cheap one as a temporary substitue and explain that the real one is waiting when you return.

:I’d take the ring. Not taking it suggests you are hedging your bets, us women have long memories.;)
Call the insurer from a call box ( ha ha covering your tracks) .
Who wants to be proposed to without the ring, unless you were going to chose it together, imho.
Sounds like a perfect location , those lovely warm Caribbean seas
Carry it in your hand luggage , carry a note that says “ there’s an engagement ring in there and it’s a surprise” ( in a sealed envelope) in case they go delving in your bag . Check beforehand if the hotel has a safe. Pay cash for the safe without your girlfriend knowing.
Read what the foreign office site says about crime in Jamaica and act accordingly.
    Try not to look guilty...;)

Thanks for the responses. I really want to take the ring as it will be a lot better experience and she will not spending the holiday looking forward to going home to see the ring!

I checked the travel insurance, it does not cover the full value of the ring. I spoke to a jewellery insurers today and they can insure it for around £70 for the year so i may do this, unless anyone else has a better idea?

I'd try and ring the house insurance company and explain.

Failing that, I'd carry it in my hand luggage and never let it leave my site and propose the first day there.

Which is what I did. Except that I wanted to propose in a particular location and it took me to the last day of my two week holiday get my now wife to visit it.
